After wrapping up a stellar career at ODU, Katelyn Smither will begin her fourth year as a member of the Lady Monarch coaching staff and second as an assistant coach in 2012. Smither previously served as a volunteer assistant in 2009 and 2010, including during ODU's back-to-back CAA titles and NCAA Tournament appearances.
Smither, an All-CAA FIrst Team selection in both her junior and senior seasons, ended her stellar career with 25 goals and 12 assists. Her senior season proved to be her most productive offensively as she scored 11 goals and dished out three assists en route to being selected Second Team All-Region. Smither was also selected as the team's Most Valuable Player at the end of the 2008 season.
Smither brought a wealth of experience as she competed in 93 games during her four-year career. The Suffolk, Va. native started 84 games and registered 62 career points. Old Dominion won a total of 60 games during Smither's career and advanced to the NCAA Tournament on three occasions.
Smither also served as a member of USA Field Hockey's Development Team.
