JAMES JOHNSON

James Johnson is in his third season with the Monarchs. He came to OldDominion after serving one season as an assistant coach at HargraveMilitary Academy, where he helpedguide the Tigers to a 26-2 record.
Johnson works with the guards and is also in charge of the filmexchange program and underclass recruitment.
Prior to going to Hargrave where he worked with the postgraduate team, Johnson was an assistant at Longwood for 1995-96 and atFerrum from 1993-95. He was a standout forward at Ferrum College, where hewas named the team's Most Valuable Player as a senior in 1993. He was alsothe squad's Defensive Player-of-the-Year as a sophomore, junior and senior.As a senior, Johnson averaged 6.1 rebounds per game.
In 1992, Johnson helped lead Ferrum to the Dixie Conference title andthe second round of the NCAA Division III tournament. He also helped thesquad captured the 1993 DixieConference regular season crown. He returned as coach in 1993-94 and helpedFerrum to another Dixie Conference regular season title.
Johnson, 28, is a native of Powhatan, Va. where he was a two-sport starin football and basketball at Powhatan High School. As a senior, he wasnamed All-District.
Johnson is a 1993 graduate of Ferrum College with a BSdegree in psychology, with a minor in criminal justice.
