NORFOLK, Va. - The Old Dominion women's basketball team will end its eight day lay-off and return to the hardwood on Tuesday to take on Stony Brook at the Ted Constant Center. The game, set to tip at 7 p.m., will be the first all-time meeting between the Lady Monarchs and the Seawolves.
Tuesday's game will be broadcast on ESPN Radio 94.1 FM with play-by-play provided by Tony Mercurio and color analysis from Susan Montgomery.
The contest will be the final non-conference home game for the Lady Monarchs, who are 4-1 in Norfolk this season. Fans are also asked to join ODU Men and Women's basketball as they ask for donations of new stuffed toys to be thrown on the basketball court during halftime of this week's games. Bring a new stuffed toy and receive discounted admission. The offer is good for the women's game on Tuesday and the men's game on Thursday. All toys will be donated to the Marine's Toys for Tots before Christmas.
Old Dominion (4-4) has never lost to a team out of the America East Conference.The Lady Monarchs are a perfect 9-0 against the league, with six of the wins coming against Boston University. Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont have all lost once to ODU.
Entering this week, Old Dominion has played the 31st most difficult schedule inthe country according to CollegeRPI.com. Old Dominion's difficult slate includeda tough 65-43 loss at Richmond on December 12.
Senior Jasmine Parker leads the team with 14.5 points and 2.9 steals per game. The guard has hit for double figures in seven of eight games this year and she has led the team in scoring in five contests. Senior guard Shadasia Green leads the team in rebounding with 6.3 per game. She posted a season-high 10 boards at Richmond. The mark was only one rebound shy of her career-high.
Stony Brook (3-7) brings back 10 letter-winners, including four starters, from that squad that reached the America East Tournament semifinals a year ago. That group accounted for over 72 percent of the Seawolves points and nearly 70 percent of their rebounding last season.
Senior Kirsten Jeter, a 2009 second team all-conference selection and preseason candidate for America East Player of the Year, leads Stony Brook in scoring (11.2 ppg) and steals (22) this season.
Stony Brook has dropped contests to a pair of CAA teams already this year. Hofstra topped the Seawolves, 84-72, in November and George Mason dominated Stony Brook, 74-48, on December 9.
