ABOUT THE LADY MONARCHS:The No. 13/18 Lady Monarchs are winners in their last ten contests and in 13 of their last 14 games and are about to close out a pair of season series at home with Georgia State on Thursday, January 31st and UNC-Wilmington on Sunday, February 3rd. Old Dominion is coming off an 76-37 route of Delaware at the Bob Carpenter Center on Sunday afternoon. Lady Monarch "sixth woman" Jessica Canady came off the bench to net a game-high 19 points along with a career-high 15 boards. Old Dominion got the Fightin' Blue Hens to shoot their lowest field goal percentage in school history (20.3 percent) and score their lowest point total since moving to the Bob Carpenter Center. Senior T.J. Jordan continues to lead the squad at 11.2 points per game. Senior Megan Pym continues leads the Lady Monarchs on the battle of the boards at 7.4 rebounds per game.
ABOUT GEORIGA STATE:The Lady Panthers enter Thursday night's contest with a 5-13 overall mark and 2-5 record in the CAA. Georgia State opened up its CAA slate with a loss to the Lady Monarchs and proceeded to drop its next three contests to James Madison (93-49), Virginia Commonwealth (63-48), and William & Mary (75-57) before getting its first conference win under its belt with a 64-53 win at Hofstra. Following a 71-55 setback to Delaware last Thursday, Georgia State posted a 77-74 victory over Northeastern. The Lady Panthers have a pair averaging double figures. Brittany Hollins, who led all scorers in the contest with Old Dominion on January 6th with 25, is averaging 14.0 points per game, while Danyiell McKeller is pouring in 10.2 points per match-up. Shay Rawls checks in as Georgia State's leader on the boards at 8.7 rebounds per game.

SERIES WITH GEORGIA STATE:Old Dominion leads the all-time series 5-0. The Panthers are one of five CAA teams that have yet to record a victory over the Lady Monarchs. The series began two years ago, during the 2005-06 season when Georgia State moved to the CAA from the Atlantic Sun Conference.
LAST TIME VS. GEORGIA STATE:The Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) slate began with the No. 19/23 Old Dominion women's basketball team picking up a 79-59 victory at Georgia State Arena against the host Panthers on January 6th. Sophomore Jessica Canady captured a then-career mark with a team-leading 21 points along with a game-high 10 boards for her second career double-double. Canady shot 7-of-8 from field and a perfect 7-of-7 from the line. Georgia State's Brittany Hollins led all scorers with 25. The Lady Monarch led 35-24 at the half en-route to improving to 17-0 all-time in CAA openers. The Panthers held a 12-11 edge with 12:36 left in the opening half, but from there the ranked Lady Monarchs took over the game. Seven members of the Old Dominion roster netted a basket while Georgia State's Brittany Hollins and Danyiell McKeller combined for 16 of the Panther's 24 halftime total. led the Lady Monarch contingent with 10 points from off the bench. Georgia State managed just four field goals in the half's final ten minutes and at one point was held scoreless for nearly six minutes. During the Panthers drought, Old Dominion used a 15-0 run to take a 33-17 advantage with 5:19 remaining. In early part of the second half, Georgia State cut it to single figures twice. Hollins on a break-away basket cut the Panther deficit to 43-35. Junior Jazzmin Walters returned a brief 10 point lead back to Old Dominion with a pair a free throws, but Georgia State closed the gap to under ten on their trip back down the floor. After two missed Panther shots, Hollins finally put the ball up in as Old Dominion led 45-37. On the next trip down the court senior T.J. Jordan put away a pair of free throws and returned the double figure edge to the Lady Monarchs for good.
LADY PANTHER TIES:Current color analyst at home games on the radio and former member of the Old Dominion women's basketball coaching staff, Susan Montgomery, was a former member of Georgia State head coach Lea Henry's staff. She spent four years as an assistant aiding the Lady Panther's back-to-back 24 win seasons and the 2001 TAAC title.
CAA STREAK:Old Dominion has won its last 19 straight CAA contests. The Lady Monarchs last loss in league play was a 79-50 against James Madison in Harrisonburg on February 1, 2007.
UNDEFEATED - AT HOME:Old Dominion is currently 7-0 at home and finished non-conference play at 5-0 at the Ted Constant Convocation Center.
HOME COURT STREAK:The Lady Monarchs have won 18 straight home contests dating back to the Dec. 20, 2006, 72-55, victory over national runner-up Rutgers. ODU's last loss at the Ted Constant Convocation Center was against national champion Tennessee, 59-75, back on Dec. 22, 2006.
CAA HOME COURT STREAK:The Lady Monarchs have won 28 straight home CAA contests dating back to the January 14, 2005, 78-59, victory over Virginia Commonwealth. ODU's last conference loss at the Ted Constant Convocation Center was against Delaware, 70-73, on January 9, 2005. Old Dominion holds a 153-2 home CAA mark.
SIXTH LADY:Sophomore Jessica Canady, Old Dominion's sixth man...or lady, was named the CAA Player of the Week for the second time this season on January 28th. She averaged 23.5 points and 11.0 rebounds and shot 68 percent from the field coming off the bench in helping the No. 13/18 Old Dominion women's basketball team to back-to-back 30+ point victories Canady poured in a career-high 28 points against Northeastern, which included 22 first half points along with a string of 14 consecutive points. With the Lady Monarchs down 10-4 in the early part of the opening half, Canady went on a 14-1 run of her own to give Old Dominion the lead for good.Against Delaware, Old Dominion's "sixth woman" collected her third double-double of the season with 19 points and a career-high 15 boards. Canady is currently averaging a team second-best 11.6 points per game.
ALL-TIME LOWS:Old Dominion gave Delaware some numbers to forget in its 76-37 victory on January 27th. The Lady Monarchs got the Fightin' Blue Hens to shoot their lowest field goal percentage in school history (20.3 percent) and score their lowest point total since moving to the Bob Carpenter Center. Their previous low was a 42-point effort in a setback to St. John's on March 17, 2005. Delaware misfired on all three of its 3-pointers and finished the game with just three assists. Kyle DeHaven, Delaware's leading scorer at 11.8 points, was limited to a season-low two points on 1-of-14 shooting.
NEARING A TOP TEN: Junior Jazzmin Walters is getting closer to cracking the top ten junior assist list at Old Dominion. Walters, who dished out four assists in ODU's last outing at Delaware, has handed out 96 assists on the year needing seven more to surpass Debbie Richard, who holds 10th place with 102 dished during her junior season in 1977.
WELCOME TO THE TED: Since the doors opened at the Ted Constant Convocation Center in 2002, the Lady Monarchs have enjoyed a 70-12 record.

DEJA FREE THROW:For two straight years, Old Dominion has escaped Williamsburg with a win over William & Mary thanks to free throws from junior Tiffany Green. Green was at the line with 1:11 remaining against the Tribe, putting the Lady Monarch junior in a similar circumstance to last year. In 2007, Green, who at times struggles from the charity stripe, iced two free throws to seal last year's victory. This year, Green once again went to the line, with Old Dominion clinging to a one-point lead, and nailed both her free throw attempts and followed up with a lay-up after the Tribe missed a three-pointer in an attempt to tie the score to seal the game.
I GET BY WITH A LITTLE HELPFROM MY FRIENDS:Leading scorer T.J. Jordan was held to one point, stemming from a free throw, in the Lady Monarchs' 86-66 victory over Virginia Commonwealth. Despite the Lady Monarchs' leading scorer having an off-night, six different Lady Monarchs scored in double figures to help lead ODU to victory. The bench was also a tremendous help as well as they outscored the Ram bench 37-15.
WHAT A RUN: It may have been James Madison ahead at the half by two, in the first meeting with the Dukes on January 13th, but an electrifying second half that included a 26-0 run by the Lady Monarchs helped spark the Lady Monarchs to a 82-57 win. Old Dominion outscored James Madison, 49-22, in the second half.
IT'S NOT THE SIZE OF THE DOG IN THE FIGHT; IT'S THE SIZE OF THE FIGHT IN THE DOG:Just because junior Jazzmin Walters is 5-2, doesn't mean she can't hang with the tall girls. While nine members of the Vanderbilt women's basketball team are 5-11 or taller, it was five-foot-two Jazzmin Walter's who was the game's leading rebounder in ODU's match-up with the then No. 21/20 Commodores. Walters hauled in a career-high seven boards as Old Dominion outrebounded Vanderbilt, 40-29. Walters repeated her career rebounding performance against Virginia Commonwealth on January 17th, which included six defensive rebounds against a squad that had eight members at 5-10 or taller.
PASSING A LEGEND:Senior T.J. Jordan has moved up three spots on the ODU all-time scoring list since the beginning of the season. With her game-high 18 points against James Madison in the first meeting with the Dukes, she surpassed a Lady Monarch legend. Jordan surpassed current WNBA Sacramento Monarch Ticha Penicherio for 19th on the all-time list. Jordan currently has 1,325 career points.
COUNT TO TEN:With a 79-59 victory over Georgia State to open up the CAA portion of its schedule on January 6th, the Lady Monarchs collected their 10th win of the season. It was the fastest Old Dominion has collected 10 wins since the 1997-98 team accomplished the feat on January 4th.
CANADY SEEING DOUBLE:Sophomore Jessica Canady, who helped the Lady Monarchs improve to 17-0 all-time in CAA openers in a 79-59 win at Georgia State, was named the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Player of the Week for the week ending January 6th. She is the second Lady Monarch to earn a weekly honor from the conference this season. Canady came off the bench and poured in a then career-high 21 points along with 10 rebounds. It was her second double-double of the season and of her career and the first time in her career she scored over 20 points in a game. Canady shot a blistering 7-of-8 from the field (87.5 percent) and a perfect 7-of-7 from the free throw line.
HELLO TOP 25 - AP:The Lady Monarchs returned to the Top 25 in the Associated Press Poll for week four following their upset victory over Michigan State on December 2. Old Dominion was ranked at No. 24 and made its first appearance in the AP Poll since the final poll of the 2002 season when the Lady Monarchs finished 15th and advanced to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament. The Lady Monarchs have continually moved up in the rankings and this week remain at No. 13, ODU's highest ranking the since the final poll of the 1998-99 season.
HELLO TOP 25 - ESPN/USA TODAY:The Lady Monarchs cracked the Top 25 of the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll during week seven coming at No. 23 following SEC road wins at Kentucky and Vanderbilt. It is the Lady Monarchs first appearance in the Coaches' Poll since the second week of the 2002-03 season. This week, the Lady Monarchs check in at No. 15.
THINK PINK:The annual HOOPS FOR A CURE game is slated for Feb. 10 against CAA rival William & Mary.
UP NEXT: The Old Dominion women's basketball team will close out the season series with UNC-Wilmington on Sunday, February 3rd at 2:00 p.m. It will be Alumni Day as the athletic department recognizes ODU's first five CAA Championship Teams (1992-96). Additionally it is Military Appreciation Day - Military and up to three guests will be admitted at the group discount rate for these games with proof of a military ID at the box office.
