NORFOLK, Va. -- As the Constant Center prepares for its fifth anniversary season, Old Dominion University and Global Spectrum, manager and operator of the arena, have issued some very unusual numbers and statistics, which have occurred over the previous five seasons at the Constant Center.

During the first 5 years at the Constant Center:

·66,981: Number of pretzels served, a total that would outweigh a fleet of 150 full-sized SUV's

·60,731: Bags of popcorn purchased

·8,474: Largest crowd to see a Men's Basketball game (1/22/05 vs. UNCW)

After holding its first ticketed event on October 28, 2002 with a Counting Crows concert, the facility has hosted a variety of renowned touring events, including sell-outs of Dave Matthews, Bruce Springsteen, Green Day, 50 Cent, Lil John, Larry the Cable Guy, American Idols Live, Maroon 5, Fall Out Boy, Cheetah Girls and Blue Man Group.

"The opening of the Ted Constant Convocation Center in 2002 marked a very significant milestone in Old Dominion University's efforts to create a University Village where the entire community can live, work, learn and play," said Robert L. Fenning, vice president for administration and finance at ODU. "Thanks to outstanding vision and management by Global Spectrum, it is the cornerstone of what has become a lively and engaging atmosphere and an environment that continues to spawn new growth and ideas."

"The venue has been a tremendous success to both Old Dominion University and the community as a whole," commented Doug Higgons, Global Spectrum Regional Vice President and General Manager of the Constant Center. "We're proud to have brought in major acts to the Hampton Roads area, in which the community has responded to in an overwhelming fashion."

The Constant Center has received more than its share of critical acclaim and recognition since the building opened its doors for the ribbon cutting ceremony on October 25, 2002. Accolades include a number one ranking in Pollstar Magazine's 2005 Year-End Top 100 for arenas under 10,000 seats, as well as a Top 20 ranking in venues of its size in 2004 and 2006, according to Venues Today.

The first six months of 2007 continued a positive trend, with the Constant Center selling more tickets than any other North American arena under 10,000 seats, according to Pollstar Magazine.

The venue is also home to the Old Dominion University Monarchs and Lady Monarchs basketball programs and has played host to the 2003 and 2006 NCAA Women's Basketball 1st and 2nd Round games and the 2004 NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament Mideast Regional Finals. The Constant Center will play host again to the NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament 1st and 2nd Round games in 2008 and 2010.

"The Ted Constant Convocation Center is a symbol of excellence for Old Dominion University Athletics," commented Dr. Jim Jarrett, Old Dominion University Athletic Director. "The arena continues to be considered one of the top collegiate venues in the nation and we have seen our attendance climb every year we have been in the building, both from the community, as well as from our students."

The Men's Basketball team has finished first in the Colonial Athletic Association in attendance four times and the Women's Basketball team has finished first in the CAA in all five seasons played at the Constant Center.

The 8,500-seat arena sits on the campus of Old Dominion University on the corner of 43rd Street and Hampton Boulevard.
