NORFOLK, Va. -- The Old Dominion field hockey remains in the same position in both national polls as it did last week. The Lady Monarchs, who improved to 6-5 overall in shutout victories over Towson and No. 18 Delaware last week and are on a five-game winning streak, are No. 13 in the STX/NFHCA Coaches Poll and No. 11 in the Women's Field Hockey.Com Poll.
In the STX/NHFCA Poll, the top four positions remain the same. North Carolina continues to be the number one team in the nation followed by Maryland and Connecticut. Old Dominion has faced four of the poll's top five opponents as Michigan made a jump in the poll moving up three positions in the poll to No. 5.
Colonial Athletic Association rival James Madison, who Old Dominion will face in three weeks on Saturday, October 20th in Harrisonburg, slid down a spot to No. 8. Penn State rounds out ODU opponents in the top ten remaining at No. 9.
Other Lady Monarch opponents featured in the poll are Duke at No. 12, Delaware at No. 18, and Virginia at No. 19. Two other CAA schools are receiving votes in William & Mary and Drexel. Old Dominion will square off against Drexel on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
In the Women's Field Hockey.Com Poll, the Tar Heels took over the top spot from the Terps. Maryland, the two-time defending national champions, had been the No. 1 team in the poll for the last four weeks. Maryland dropped to No. 2 followed by Connecticut.
Other Lady Monarch opponents featured in the Women's Field Hockey.Com Poll top ten are Michigan, Penn State, and James Madison. The Wolverines check in at No. 5, with Penn State at No. 8, and James Madison returning to the top ten at No. 10.
Also featured in the poll is Duke at No. 13 and Virginia at No. 15.
The Lady Monarch field hockey team puts its five-game win streak on the line when they return home to Foreman Field this weekend to host two CAA contests. Old Dominion hosts Hofstra on Saturday, October 6th and Drexel on Sunday, October 7th. Both games begin at 1:00 p.m. and admission is free.
