LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ--Adam Wright of Old Dominion University, and Charles Griffin of Hofstra University, were named the Colonial Athletic Association Wrestlers of the Week. This is Wright's second time this season receiving the honor; he was named CAA Co-Wrestler of the Week back in December for his performances against UNI and The Citadel in dual competition.
Wright, a senior from Dayton, VA (Turner Ashby), was named the Most Outstanding Wrestler at the Virginia Intercollegiate tournament, leading ODU to its first team State Championship since 1994. Wright won the 197-pound title with a fall, a tech fall and a major decision while collecting his 101st career win in the championship bout. The top ranked 197 in the CAA, Wright improves to 16-4 overall on the season with a flawless 5-0 dual record.
Wright has now received Wrestler of the Week honors three times in his career with the Monarchs. He was also a 2004 NCAA qualifier, and as a freshman Wright was named to the preseason CAA All-freshman team.
Griffin, a sophomore from Reading, PA defeated the 16th ranked 141 in the nation, Brandon Rader of West Virginia, 17-8 in a major decision. The victory broke an 11-11 tie and propelled Hofstra to victory over the Mountaineers. Griffin was the CAA Rookie of the Year in 2005.
