NORFOLK, Va. -- The Old Dominion women's field hockey team will look to rebound from last Sunday's loss to American as they host perennial powerhouses Virginia on Saturday, September 3rd and Maryland, on Sunday, September 4th. Both games will be played at 1:00 p.m. at Foreman Field and admission is free.

* Old Dominion saw scoring last week from both the veterans and the rookies. In last Saturday's game against Penn State, it was the seniors racking up the goals. Janelle Engle (Mt. Joy, Pa.) picked up two-goals, including the game-winner, while fellow classmate Darcy Pinchbeck (Suffolk, Va.) added in an insurance goal. Then on Sunday it was the rookies' turn as Denise Admiraal (Heiloo, Holland) and Katelyn Smither (Suffolk, Va.) each registered their first collegiate tallies.
* The Lady Monarchs enter ACC country this weekend taking on Virginia and the first of a home-and-home series with Maryland. Additional ACC rivals the Lady Monarchs will take on in 2005 include Duke and North Carolina. Last season three ACC teams made it to the Final Four - semifinalist Maryland, runner-up Duke, and national champion, Wake Forest.

* The Cavaliers have had five different goals scorers in only two games played thus far in 2005. In the wins over Ball State and Virginia Commonwealth, Virginia has notched 10 goals to average 5.0 goals per game
* Leading Virginia on the stat sheet is senior midfielder Katie Phillips with four goals. Phillips scored all-four, including the game-winner, in the victory over Ball State last weekend.

ODU All-Time vs. Maryland: 21-13-1
* Maryland will host Michigan on Friday night before traveling to Norfolk to kick off the home-and-home series.
* Saturday's game will mark the first of a home-and-home series with the Terrapins, a series which has dated back to the 1999 season.
* Old Dominion and Maryland have each collected only one series sweep. The Lady Monarchs captured theirs in 2001 with a 2-1 victory at home and a 1-0 overtime win in College Park, while the Terps collected theirs in 2003 with a 2-1 win at Foreman Field and a 3-2 victory on their home turf.
* Last season the two teams spilt the season series. The Terps blanked ODU 6-0 at home in their most lopsided victory over the Lady Monarchs. However, ODU got its revenge when Maryland came to town later in the season, edging the Terps, 2-1, in overtime.
* Old Dominion has done pretty well in defending their home turf against the Terps. The Lady Monarchs hold a 11-2-1 record at Foreman Field vs. Maryland.
* On the stat sheet prior to Friday's game against the Wolverines, the Terps are led by Jackie Ciconte with four goals.
* In net, both Kathryn Masson and Christina Restivo have seen significant time. Thus far, the Maryland defense has allowed four goals in three games.
* Did you know...The Terps' Paula Infante, a junior midfielder, is the sister of Camila Infante from American, who scored all three goals in ODU's 3-2 loss last weekend.

The Lady Monarchs will hit the road for the first time in 2005 beginning a six-game road trip. Old Dominion will travel to Ann Arbor, Michigan to take on the Wolverines on Saturday, September 10th and take on Miami (OH) in a neutral site game on Sunday, September 11th.
