NORFOLK, Va. - Field hockey's Janelle Engle (Va. Beach, Va.) is one of two students to represent Old Dominion University in the USA Today's 2005-06 All-USA College Academic Team competition. Winners will be announced in the newspaper in February.
USA Today honors outstanding students annually by naming its All-USA College Academic Team. The 10 students selected to the All-USA First Team will be pictured in the newspaper and receive a $2,500 cash award. On the field Engle, a First Team All-American and Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Year, helped the Lady Monarchs to a 19-6 overall record, a No. 3 national ranking, the CAA championship, and the program's 16th Final Four appearance. She led the team with 20 goals to go along with 10 assists for 50 points.

Engle tallied game-winners against Penn State, Va. Commonwealth, and Hofstra and served as the primary striker for the penalty corner unit which saw 228 opportunities.
Engle has also received numerous academic awards. She is a three-time member of the NFHCA Academic Honor Roll. She plans to graduate with a degree in music education in December 2006. She is also a concertmaster of the ODU Symphony and first violinist in the Diehn String Quartet.
