NORFOLK, Va. -- The Old Dominion field hockey team remained ranked at No.7 after a 2-0 week which saw the Lady Monarchs hand the Northeastern Huskies their first Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) loss and clinch the regular season title with a 1-0 shutout over Hofstra.
The top seven positions in the poll remained the same with Wake Forest continuing as the top ranked team in the country with a 16-0 mark. Duke, who the Lady Monarchs defeated 5-3 in the their first meeting this season, were No. 2, followed by No. 3 Maryland, who ODU downed 4-1 back on October 14th.
Coming in at No. 4 is North Carolina who will be the Lady Monarchs opponent on Saturday in the annual scholarship match. The five-dollar gate admission will benefit the ODU Intercollegiate Foundation For Field Hockey Scholarships. The Tar Heels (12-4) took the first meeting in Chapel Hill, 1-0, back on September 17th.
In all, the Lady Monarchs have faced five of the country's top six teams including No. 5 American and No. 6 Penn State.
Other Old Dominion opponents ranked this week include No. 11 Michigan, No. 13 Northeastern, No. 19 James Madison, and No. 20 Virginia. CAA rival Hofstra also appears in the poll continuing to receive votes.
Saturday's game against North Carolina will not only be the annual scholarship match, but the final regular season home game for the Lady Monarchs. The Old Dominion seniors will be honored prior to the beginning of the game.
The Lady Monarchs will then close out the 2005 regular season as they travel to William & Mary on Sunday.
