NORFOLK, Va. -- Old Dominion's Janelle Engle (Mt. Joy, Pa.) and Denise Admiraal (Heillo, Holland) were named the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Player and Co-Rookie of the Week respectively it was announced Monday afternoon by the league office. The duo helped the eighth-ranked Lady Monarch field hockey team to victories over Virginia Commonwealth and Delaware over the weekend.
Engle collected a career-high four goals in last Friday night's 5-0 shutout victory over Virginia Commonwealth. All four of her goals came off of penalty corners, while defensively she led ODU to its fourth shutout of the season. Against Delaware, Engle helped limit the Blue Hens to just four shots and four penalty corners. The Mt. Joy, Pa. native was also apart of the penalty corner unit which took 40 over the weekend. Engle is currently the Lady Monarchs' second leading scorer with 12 goals, five assists, and 29 points.
Admiraal collected four goals and eight points in Old Dominion's 2-0 week. Last Friday she helped the Lady Monarchs to a 5-0 victory and ODU's fourth shutout of the season with a goal. On Sunday against the defending CAA Champions, Admiraal registered her first career hat trick and her second game-winner of the 2005 season. She is currently ODU's third leading scorer with 12 points, three assists, and 27 points.
The Lady Monarchs return to action on Friday night when they travel to Maryland looking to avenge their 2-1 overtime loss against the Terps from earlier this season. Old Dominion will then return home to host Duke at Foreman Field on Sunday afternoon.
