Men's Soccer 2004 Recruiting Class Ranked #23 by College Soccer News

NORFOLK, VA. -- After stunning victories over nationally ranked California andStanford, the Old Dominion University men's soccer team shot up into the national rankingstoday. The Coaches poll(NSCAA/adidas) put the Monarchs at number seven, while SoccerAmerica magazine has the Monarchs at number six. ODU is 3-0 thus far this season andhas not allowed a goal.

This is the highest ranking of a Monarch soccer squad since Sept. 23, 1981 when ODUwas fifth in the ISAA Coaches Poll. ODU was last ranked Nov. 8, 1999 at number 13 by NSCAA, 20 by Soccer America and 24th by Soccer Times.

Junior defender Trevor McEachron (Woodbridge, VA.) Was named CAA Player ofthe Week. McEachron anchored ODU's solid defense which shutdown both California andStanford last weekend. ODU's defense held Stanford to without a shot in the first half, andjust five for the entire match.

The Monarchs host the 28th annual Stihl Soccer Classic this weekend. ODU will playAmerican on Friday at 7 p.m. William and Mary vs. Longwood at 4:30. On Sunday, ODUwill play Longwood at 2:30 and W&M will play American at 12 noon.
