Field Hockey's Anna Rogers Named CAA Player Of The Week

Sept. 30, 2003

NORFOLK, VA -- Old Dominion freshman forward Anna Rogers (New Bloomfield, PA) was named the Colonial Athletic Association's Field Hockey Player of the Week it was announced by the conference office. Rogers becomes the second Lady Monarch to earn the conference's weekly honor after leading ODU to a 5-0 shutout over CAA rival James Madison and a 4-1 victory over 12th ranked Virginia.

Rogers piled up nine points on the weekend on four goals and two assists on two games. She tallied two goals, including the game-winner, and had an assist in leading Old Dominion to its victory over the Cavaliers and also scored a pair of goals in the Lady Monarchs' second shutout win of the year over the Dukes. In eight games before the weekend, Rogers had just one goal on the season.

In the weekly STX/NFHCA Division I Coaches' Poll, the Lady Monarchs remained in seventh place with their 6-4 overall record. The top five remained the same with Wake Forest holding the top position with an undefeated 9-0 record. North Carolina (9-1) stayed in second, followed by Maryland (10-1), Duke (8-1), and Michigan (6-3).

Delaware once again joined Old Dominion in the Top 20. The Fightin' Blue Hens rank 12th after improving to 7-2 on the year. Three CAA teams also received votes this week, William & Mary, Hofstra, and James Madison.

All but one of the Lady Monarchs' 10 opponents to date appear in this week's poll. Upcoming opponents still include #5 Michigan, #10 Princeton, and #12 Delaware, along with rematches against #2 North Carolina and #3 Maryland.

The next poll will be released on Tuesday, October 7th. The STX/NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll has no bearing on selection to the 2003 NCAA Division I Championship field.

The Lady Monarchs conclude their six game roadtrip this week traveling to a pair of CAA contests. Old Dominion meets Hofstra, one of five CAA teams to appear in this week's poll, on Friday, October 3rd at 7:00 p.m. and then travels to Drexel on Sunday, October 5th for a noon meeting.
