NORFOLK, VA (September 16, 2003) -- Senior midfield Angie Loy (Loysville, PA) was named the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Field Hockey Player of the Week for the week ending September 14th it was announced by the conference office.

Loy helped lead the Lady Monarchs to a pair of win over nationally ranked opponents last week, which included a 3-0 shutout in the CAA opening win over William & Mary and a 4-2 victory over #10 Connecticut. Loy totaled three goals and two assists on the week. She had a hand in all three of the Lady Monarchs goals against the Tribe, scoring two and assisting on the other. Defensively, Loy helped Old Dominion to their first shutout of the 2003 season. Again the 10th-ranked Huskies, Loy registered a goal and assist.

Entering this week, Loy is averaging a CAA best 3.00 points per game, which ranks her third nationally. Additionally, the senior midfielder is averaging 1.17 goals per game, ranking her second in the CAA and 12th in the country. With her three goals and two assists, Loy also moved up on the ODU career statistical leaders chart. Loy moved into 10th all-time on the points leaders list collecting 159 career points thus far in her career.

The STX/NFHCA Division I Coaches Poll was also released on Tuesday, which has the Lady Monarchs moving up one position to number five.

The top four remained the same with Wake Forest (5-0) retaining the top spot with 27 first place votes. North Carolina (6-0), who Old Dominion is scheduled to take on in Chapel Hill on Saturday, stayed in second place and received four first place votes. Maryland (6-0) and Duke (4-1), an ODU opponent on Sunday in Durham, rounded out third and fourth respectively.

Four CAA schools are represented in the poll this week, with Old Dominion (4-2) at number five and William & Mary (3-3) falling back a notch to #19. Hofstra (5-0) and Delaware (4-2) both received votes in the poll.

Other upcoming Lady Monarch field hockey opponents include #6 Michigan, #10 Princeton, and #13 Virginia. In all 12 of the Lady Monarchs' 17 opponents are either ranked or receiving votes in this week's poll.

The next poll will be released on Tuesday, September 23rd, 2003. The STX/NFHCA Division I National Coache Poll has no bearing on selection to the 2003 NCAA Division I Championship field.

The Lady Monarchs return to action this weekend against #2 North Carolina on Saturday, September 20th in Chapel Hill at 1:00 p.m. and face #4 Duke in Durham on Sunday, September 21st at 1:00 p.m. Stay tuned to www.odusports.com for any changes in this weekend's match-ups due to Hurricane Isabel.
