Monarchs Soccer Receives Votes in College Soccer News Preseason Poll

Dec. 11, 2002

Old Dominion men's soccer players Attila Vendegh (Bratislava, Slovakia) and Trevor McEachron (Woodbridge, VA) added another to their growing list of post-season awards on Wednesday when they were voted to the All-Virginia State first team by the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID).

Vendegh, a junior forward, was one of only two players to repeat on the first team (VCU's Milorad Djordjevic) this year. Vendegh was named the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Player of the Year for the second time this season after leading the league with 16 goals and seven assists, both career highs. He became the most prolific scorer in ODU history with 46 goals and 108 points. He was also selected to All-CAA first team and the All-South Atlantic Region team for the third time in his career, as well as being recognized as an Academic All-American.

McEachron makes his first appearance on the All-State team after being named to the All-Region squad last month. He was also on the All-CAA first team after making 19 starts in 2002 for the Monarchs. He scored his first career goal earlier this year to defeat Ga. State 2-1.

Vendegh and McEachron help lead the ODU men's soccer team to a 10-9-1 finish this year as the Monarchs won their first ever NCAA Tournament game. The 3-0 win over Richmond in the NCAA first round was the first game hosted by ODU and helped them reach the second round for first time ever.

University of Virginia junior forward Alecko Eskandarian and Virginia Commonwealth University head coach Tim O'Sullivan were selected as the 2002 Virginia Men's Soccer Division I Player of the Year and Coach of the Year. William & Mary swept the awards on the women's side as junior midfielder Lindsey Vanderspiegel was named Player of the Year and head coach John Daly was selected Coach of the Year.
