The Old Dominion men's soccer team will travel to William and Mary on Saturday night to take on their Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) rival at 7:00 p.m. The teams are tied atop the conference and are playing for the regular season title and the number one seed in next weekend's tournament.
The squads have suffered only one loss each in conference play, ODU to Towson 1-0, and W&M to VCU 3-2 in overtime last Saturday. They are both 6-1-1 so far this season in the CAA. The Monarchs have won the regular season title two out of the last three years but have not been able to win the tournament.
ODU comes in riding a four-game unbeaten streak and fresh off their 1-0 double overtime victory over VCU last weekend in Richmond. Attila Vendegh (Bratislava, Slovakia) netted his CAA best 14th goal of the season with just 1:30 left to win it. Vendegh has scored seven goals in the last seven games and is now tied for 12th in the nation with 2.13 points per game, and tied for 13th with just under one goal a game.
The Tribe have already won two games this week bouncing back from their loss to the Rams. They defeated George Mason on Tuesday and UMBC on Thursday. They feature the conference's best scoring offense, averaging 6.13 points a game. The Monarchs rank third with 5.25 ppg.
Both teams have clinched playoff spots but are still looking to lock a first-round bye. Only the top six teams make the post-season tournament, with the two highest ranked squads receiving byes. The tournament begins on Wednesday, November 13th with the other four teams playing for the right to move on. The remaining four teams will meet for the championship starting on Friday, November 15th at the Va. Beach Sportsplex. The championship game will be that Sunday, the 17th at the Sportsplex.
