Norfolk, VA-The Old Dominion men's soccer team will attempt to win their sixth game in a row when they take on CAA foe William & Mary this Saturday at 7 p.m. Old Dominion (5-3 overall/ 1-0 CAA) is looking to pick up their second conference win of the season, while the Tribe (5-4-1/ 0-0 CAA) will be trying to rebound from a 4-1 loss to #12 North Carolina.
The Tribe holds a 18-12-7 series lead with the Monarchs, but the two teams have split their last six meetings. ODU has defeated William & Mary in their last three regular season match-ups, only to be bested by the Tribe in the CAA playoffs. Last season the Monarchs defeated William & Mary 1-0 in the regular season before dropping the rematch in the CAA playoffs, 2-0.
ODU is led by sophomore forward Attila Vendegh (Bratislava, Slovakia) who leads the CAA and South Atlantic region in scoring with ten goals and four assists. Complimenting Vendegh offensively is sophomore midfielder Michael Tooley (Richmond, VA), the current CAA Player of the Week. Tooley is second on the team in scoring with three goals and one assist, and has scored a goal in each of the last three games.
Balance is the key for the Tribe. Five players have scored four or more goals for William & Mary. The Tribe is led by forward Carlos Garcia, who has tallied seven goals and three assists so far in 2001.
ODU's next two games will be on the road-October 13 at Wake Forest and at Liberty on the 16th.
