Monarchs Defeat Radford, 11-10

NORFOLK, VA. (May 9) - Jeff Eure (Pillow, Pa.) knocked in three runs, JaredMusolf (Lakehurst, NJ.) two, and the Monarchs held off a Radford rally todefeat the Highlanders, 11-10 Tuesday afternoon in a non-conference game. OldDominion is now 30-18-1, while Radford drops to 25-22.

Eure's sacrifice fly scored Tim Hummel (Montgomery, NY.) in the fifthand his double knocked in Musolf and Hummel in the Monarchs four-run seventh.Jared Musolf singled home Hummel in the first inning and his fifth inninggroundout plated Brent Sollenberger (Chambersburg, Pa.).

Tim Hummel scored three times and walked four times to bring his seasontotal to 50, six shy of the school record set by Ron Walker in 1997. Hummel wholeads the CAA in hitting with a .412 average has already set a new school record with141 career walks.

Brian Ross pitched two scoreless innings for the Monarchs. Ross wasmaking his first appearance since a line drive broke a bone in his pitching arm againstVirginia Tech on March 14. The lefthander fanned two batters.

Radford was led by Adam McKenzie with three hits and two runs batted in.He singled home Sean Walsh in the fifth inning and doubled home Walsh in theeighth. Fred Wray knocked in two runs with two hits as well for Radford. In theninth inning, Radford pulled to within a run of the Monarchs after pinch runnerJamie Davis scored on a wild pitch to make the score 11-10. Ryan McFadden whoreached on an error moved up to third, but Monarch relief pitcher Daniel McAfee(Crofton, Md.) got Ray Detwiler to fly out to centerfield to end the game.

Old Dominion will play #14 Wake Forest Wednesday at 5 p.m. in the finalhome game for seniors Brian Ross (Portland, Me.), Jason Greiner (Wexford, Pa.) andJoe Troilo(Avondale, Pa.). Radford hosts Coastal Carolina on Saturday.
