W&M Eliminates Monarchs On Harris Grand Slam, 9-5

MANTEO, NC (May 19) - Shortstop Brendan Harris hit a two-out grandslam, breaking a five-all tie and lifting the Tribe ofWilliam and Mary to a 9-5 victory over Old Dominion May 19 in theelimination game of the CAA Tournament.

William and Mary(31-24) now advances to Saturday's 12 noon game while theregular season champion Monarchs fall to 33-22-1. Since May11th, the two teams have played each other five times.

In the first inning Brian Rogers knocked in Stephen Booker on a groundout to putW&M up, 1-0. The Monarchs came back in the second as Jason Greiner (Wexford,Pa.) slammed his tenth homer of the season with Ross Robertson (Chesapeake, Va.)aboard.

In the fourth Jeff Eure (Pillow, Pa.) hit his eighth homer of the year withJared Musolf (Lakehurst, NJ.) aboard. The Tribe came back to tie the game in thebottom frame when Michael Brown homered to make it 4-2, Stephen Booker doubledhome Tim Jones and Booker later scored on a wild pitch.

In the fifth Tim Hummel (Montgomery, NY.) singled homeBrent Sollenberger (Chambersburg, Pa.) to put ODU up, 5-4, but Brian Rogers tiedit for the Tribe with his 14 homerun of the year. It would stay that way untilthe bottom of the ninth.

The Monarchs threatened in the top of the eight with Hummeland Musolf on base with no outs, but could not score.

Tim Hummel, the CAA's Player of the Year and DefensivePlayer of the Year is now hitting .403 and Jared Musolfwho earned first team All-CAA honors is now at .419, secondin the league. The NCAA pairings will be announced on Monday afternoon.
