Hummel Named CAA Player Of The Year & Defensive Player Of The Year; Musolf Named All CAA

MANTEO, NC (May 15) - Old Dominion University junior shortstopTim Hummel (Montgomery, NY.) was selected Colonial Athletic Association Playerof the Year and Defensive Player of the Year on May 15. Sophomore first baseman JaredMusolf (Lakehurst, NJ) joined Hummel on the first team All-CAA squad.

Hummel ranked third in the CAA with a .405 batting average,second in runs batrted in with 63 and sixth in the leaguein stolen bases with 20. He also has a fielding percentageof .967 which is currently the best ever in Monarch shortstop history.

Hummel led the team in runs scored with 64, hit eight homers and hisslugging percentage was .634. In CAA games, Hummel had 18 walks and 30 runs batted. Overall, Hummel walked 51 times which is five shy of the school 56 set byRon Walker in 1997. He has 142 career walks which is a school best. He iscurrently one of 16 finalists for BASEBALL AMERICA'S National Player of the Year honors.

On the defensive end, Hummel has a .967 fielding percentage and has committed only nine errors. He is on pace to set a new school fielding record for shortstops.

Musolf led the Monarchs with a .422 average, second in the CAA to VCU's JasonDubois' .430. Musolf knocked in 49 runs and was second to Hummel in runs scoredwith 54. Musolf hit .434 in 21 CAA games.

The Monarchs(32-20-1), who won eight of their final nine CAA games all on theroad open the CAA Tournament Tuesday with #8 William and Mary. Old Dominion isthe number one seed. Game time at the Coy Tillet Field is 4 p.m., followed byECU and George Mason at 7:30 p.m.
