WILLIAMSBURG, VA. (May 12, 2000) -- Ross Robertson's two-out double scored TimHummel and Jared Musolf )to lift the Monarchs toa 4-3 victoryover William and Mary on May 12. Coupled with East Carolina's 7-6 win overUNC Wilmington, ODU is now in a three way tie for first place. UNCW, ECU and ODUall have13-7 conference records. The Monarchs are 31-20-1 overall.
All-American candidate Tim Hummel put the Monarchs on theboard first with a solo home run in the first inning. Inthe fourth, Jeff Eure (Pillow, NJ.) singled home Jared Musolf to make it 2-0.
The Tribe came back as Michael Brown knocked in Brian Rogersin the fourth, the Rogers scored the game tying run in thesixth on a single by Brendan Harris. The Tribes third runcame in the ninth as Tim Jones singled home Matt McQuire.
Junior Shawn Weaver (Loganton, Pa.) pitched a complete game,striking out six for his eighth win of the season. He is6-1 in CAA games this year. Tribe starter and loser WhittFarr fanned nine in seven innings of work.
Hummel had two hits on the night, his second started theMonarchs rally in the eighth. He is now hitting .400, whileJared Musolf is up to .413.
The two teams play the third and final game of the seriesSaturday night at 7 p.m. in Williamsburg, Va., at PlumeriPark. If ECU defeatsUNCW and the Monarchs win, Old Dominion will get the topseed in next weeks tournament. If UNCW wins, they get firstplace.
