Baseball Gets 13-4 Victory Over UNC Charlotte

NORFOLK, VA. (April 5) -- Junior All-American candidate Tim Hummel (Montgomery,NY.) knocked in five runs and junior righthander J.D. Jackson (Sallisaw,OK)fanned seven and scattered four hits through seven innings to lead Old DominionUniversity to a 13-4 non-conference win over UNC Charlotte on April 5. TheMonarchs improve to 19-14-1, while the 49ers drop to 18-14-1.

Hummel singled in two runs in the fourth inning, hit a two-run homer inthe seventh and added another run in the ninth. Jackson issued no walks as hepicked up his third win of the season. Jonathan Tinkham (Chesapeake, Va.) andMike Hoover (Gloucester, Va.) pitched the last two innings.

Joe Troilo (Avondale, Pa.) knocked in three runs for Old Dominion with abases clearing double in the Monarchs six-run fourth inning. Jeff Eure (Pillow, Pa.)knocked in two runs in the first with a single.

The 49ers scored three runs in the second to take a 3-2 lead as ThomasHopkins tripled home Daryl Clark and Mike Taylor, then scored on Kirby Southerlandsacrifice fly. UNCC's fourth run came on a solo homer by Daryl Clark, his fifthof the season.

The Monarchs return to action on Friday when they host UNC Wilmington in aCAA series beginning at 7 p.m. UNCC hosts Cincinnati Friday at 6 p.m. to start aConference USA series.
