Old Dominion Pounds No. 21 East Carolina 15-3

GREENVILLE, N.C. (April 22, 2000) -- Old Dominion had four home runs on the night,including three in the fifth inning, and junior righthanderShawn Weaver (Loganton, Pa.) won his seventh game of yearas the Monarchs defeated No. 21East Carolina 15-3 on April 22 in Colonial Athletic Association baseballaction.

The loss by ECU coupled with UNCW's win over GMUputs UNCW in first, ODU in second and ECU in third.

The Monarchs (26-16-1, 11-6 CAA) took a 1-0 lead in the second as Travis Silver(Weaverville, NC.) was hit by a pitch scoring Jeff Eure (Pillow, Pa.)from thirdwith thebases loaded.

ODU added four more in the third behind Jeff Eure's three-run home runto give ODU a 5-0 lead. ECU rallied to cut the deficit to two, 5-3, in thebottom of the third. James Molinari walked, stole second and moved to thirdon a wild pitch before Joseph Hastings walked to put two on.

East Carolina (33-13, 9-5 CAA) then scored a pair as John Williamsonbelted a two-run double to the fence before Erik Bakich's double broughtWilliamson around. From there, ODU starter Shawn Weaver then settled down anddid notallow another hit until the eighth inning. Weaver picked up the win by going8.0 innings allowing just four hits and three runs with six walks and sevenstrikeouts.

In the fifth, the Monarchs exploded for seven runs. Travis Silver, DavidVilardi (Fishkill, NY.)and Jared Musolf hit back-to-back-to-back two-runhomers to give ODU a 14-3 advantage.

Erik Bakich led the Pirates at the plate going 3-for-4 with one RBI.

Jeff Eure was 2-5 with tworuns and five RBI to lead the Monarchs while Vilardi was 3-5 with three runsand two RBI. Musolf and Ross Roberston each had two hits and combined forfour RBI. Tim Hummel (Montgomery, NY.) did not get a hit,but walked three times and scored three times.

ECU and Old Dominion will finish the three-game league series onSunday, April 23 at 1:00 p.m. at Harrington Field.
