Oehler's Slam Helps Monarchs Defeat Radford, 11-10

RADFORD, VA. (March 28, 2000) -- Freshman catcher John Oehler's (Audubon, NJ.) firstcollegiate home run was a grand slam in the Monarchs seven-run third to lead OldDominion to an 11-10 non conference victory over Radford March 28. TheMonarchs, winners of 13 of their last 16, are now 15-12-1. Radford drops to12-12.

The Monarchs scored all 11 runs in the first three innings, then held offthe Highlanders in the ninth. Junior lefthander, Parker Friske (Va. Beach, Va.)picked uphis third win of the year. He fanned eight in six innings of work. FreshmanKevinEvans (Shamong, NJ.) picked up his second save of the season.

Two other Monarchs, Tim Hummel (Montgomery, NY.), and Jared Musolf(Lakehurst, NJ.) had three hits each. Musolf is fifth in the CAA in hittingwith a .414batting average. Hummel is now hitting .384.

Bill McCarthy led Radford with three runs batted in on two hits. He broughttheHighlanders to within one run with a solo shot in the bottom of the ninth. KeithBrunstand Fred Wray also had two hits for the Highlanders.

Old Dominion returns to action on Wednesday afternoon with a 5 p.m. gameagainstLiberty at the Bud Metheny Complex.
