Men's Baseball Defeat Virginia Tech, 15-3

NORFOLK, VA. (Mar. 15) -- Joe Troilo (Avondale, Pa.), Jeff Eure (Pillow, Pa.)and Jason Greiner (Wexford, Pa.) each hit home runs to lead the Monarchs ofOld Dominion University to a 15-3 victory over Virginia Tech on March 15.ODU, winners of eight of the last nine are now 10-10-1, while the Hokies are8-8-1.

Jeff Eure started the Monarch scoring in the second with a leadoff solohomerun. In the fourth Jason Greiner hit his first homer of the year with Jesse Thomas(Ventnor, Pa.) aboard. After Travis Silver (Weaverville, NC) singled, Troilohit his second homer of the season.

Greiner led the Monarchs with five runs batted in, followed by Troilo withfour. Five Monarchs; Troilo, Eure, Thomas, Greiner and Jared Musolf (Lakehurst, NJ.),each collected two hits. Eure joins Tim Hummel (Montgomery, NY.) over the 400mark. He is currently hitting .402 and Hummel is at .419.

Sophomore righthander Louis Mazzante (Montoursville, Pa.) won his first gameof the year, allowing only one run and striking out six.

Virginia Tech was led by Chad Foutz and Chris Hutchinson with two hitseach. Hutchinson, Addison Bowman and Brian Copeland each knocked in a run for theHokies.

Old Dominion hosts Richmond in the first CAA series of the year beginningFriday night at 7:00 p.m.
