Musolf's Hit in Ninth Gives Monarchs 3-2 Win over Va. Tech

NORFOLK, VA. (March 14, 2000) -- Sophomore Jared Musolf's (Lakehurst, NJ.) two-out singleto leftfield plated Joe Troilo (Avondale, Pa.) to give the Monarchs of OldDominiona 3-2 victory over Virginia Tech. Old Dominion is now 9-10-1 and Virginia Techdrops to 8-7-1. ODU has won seven of their last eight games.

The Hokies scored first in the fourth inning as Chris Hutchinson doubledhomeAddison Bowman. In the bottom of the inning, ODU tied the game as Jared Musolfdoubled home Jeff Eure (Pillow, Pa.).

The Monarchs took a 2-1 lead in the sixth when freshman catcher John Oehler(Audubon, NJ) doubled home Jason Greiner (Wexford, Pa.).

Monarch lefthanded starter Brian Ross (Portland, ME.) left the game in theseventh, fanning five and walking no one. He was hit by a line-drive on the sidehis pitching hand. Virginia Tech tied the game in the ninth as Kevin Bicesingled home John Westwith two outs. Bice led the Hokies with three hits on the day as did Musolf forthe Monarchs.

The two teams play again Wednesday at 3:00 at the Bud Metheny BaseballComplex.
