Hummel Named to Baseball America's Second Team Pre-Season All-American Squad

DURHAM, NC (January 6, 2000) -- Old Dominion University junior shortstop Tim Hummel(Montgomery, NY.) has been selected to the second team BASEBALL AMERICA'Spre-season All-American squad. The 6-2, 195-pounder has now been selected to allthree All-American teams.

In November, Hummel was named third team pre-season All-American byboth the National Collegiate Baseball Writers and COLLEGIATE BASEBALLpaper. ESPN's Peter Gammons mentioned Hummel on his BASEBALL TONIGHTSHOW in August as a probable first round pick for the June 2000 draft.

In the 1999 season, Hummel earned first team All-CAA and All-Region honorsashe hit .368 with five homers, 62 runs batted in, and 21 stolen bases. This pastsummer,Hummel led the prestitious Cape Cod Summer League in walks (37), ranked thirdin on base percentage (.440), ssecond in runs scored (38) and hit .275 witheight homers and 28 runs batted in. The Cape Cod League uses wooden bats. TheMonarchs were 38-17 and reached the finals of the CAA Tournament for the fifthtime in six years.
