BIRMINGHAM, AL.- (Nov. 8) Old Dominion University junior shortstop TimHummel (Montgomery, NY.) has been selected to the third team Pre-SeasonAll-American squad by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers for the upcoming2000 season.
This past summer, Hummel was named to the prestigious Cape Cod Summer LeagueAll-Star squad as he led the league in walks (37), ranked third in on basepercentage (.440), second in runs scored (38) and hit .275 with eight homers and 28runs batted in. Players in the Cape Cod League use only wooden bats. ESPN'sPeter Gammons mentioned Hummel on his BASEBALL TONIGHT SHOW as a probable firstround pick for the June 2000 draft.
In the 1999 season, Hummel earned first team All-CAA and All-Region honorsas he hit .368 with five homers, 62 runs batted in, and 21 stolen bases. TheMonarchs were 38-17 and reached the finals of the CAA Tournament for the fifth time in sixyears.
