NORFOLK, Va. - Old Dominion University head women’s basketball coach DeLisha Milton-Jones announced on Monday that Asia Williams will join her staff.

Williams will serve as an assistant coach. She is joining the Monarchs after previously serving as an assistant coach and recruiting director of Norfolk State last season. Williams worked on implementing post player skill development workouts for the Spartans along with assisting scouting reports, opponent analysis, and game preparation.

“When I sat down with Asia, two things jumped out,” said Milton-Jones. “One, she was a standout women’s basketball player at Wake Forest, so she knows what elite looks like. Two, her recruiting relationships in the DMV and Carolina areas run deep. She’s trusted and connected in those gyms and those living rooms. I hired her because she can recruit and impact my program positively. Our players and our fans are going to love her.”

She joined Norfolk State after coaching at UNC Wilmington from 2021-23 as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. Williams specialized in working on guard skill development and on-court player development. She began her coaching career at Sun Belt school App State as a graduate assistant coach from 2013-14 before moving to Long Island University as an assistant coach from 2015-16.

“I’m honored and humbled to join Coach Milton-Jones’ staff at ODU,” said Williams. “I’m excited to work alongside this amazing staff as we continue building something special. Coach D is someone I’ve admired for a long time, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to learn from one of the game’s greats. My passion has always been serving student-athletes and helping them reach their full potential. I can’t wait to get started.”

Williams joined UNC Greensboro and spent 2016-18 with the Spartans as assistant coach and added recruiting director to her responsibilities. She then moved to Western Carolina for the 2018-19 season and led recruiting operations and assisted with opponent scouting and film preparation as an assistant coach.

Williams, a native of Durham, North Carolina joined Charleston from 2019-21 and notably helped sign the number one recruiting class in the CAA and the 47th ranked national signing class. She also worked on implementing offensive and defensive systems for the team during her time with the Cougars.
