NORFOLK, Va. – #62 Old Dominion women’s tennis defeated Elon, 4-1, at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon.

“Nice win for the team," Head Coach Dominic Manilla said. "Elon really pushed us mentally and physically in a lot of ways. I’m happy with where we are at this point in the season."

Old Dominion doubles pair Lidiia Rasskouskaia and Ulyana Romanova began the afternoon with a confident 6-0 win on court three over Madison Cordisco and Alexia Nyborg, while teammates Uladzislava Manzhos and Marina Markina followed suit on court two with a 6-3 victory over Lisa Kranex and Cornelia Kack. Kira Matushkina’s and Victoria Matasova’s match against Simone Bergeron and Mariana Reding was suspended at 4-5 on court one.

Rasskouskaia continued to add to ODU’s lead after downing Cordisco 6-1, 6-4 on court five. Elon was put on the board after #117 Matasova retired on court two against Bergeron (7-6, 3-0), however #97 Matushkina put the Monarchs one point away from claiming the match following a 6-2, 7-5 victory over Kack on court one. To claim the match, No. 6 Markina defeated Nathalie Marinovitch 7-6, 6-1 to give ODU the win.

No. 3 Romanova’s and No. 4 Manzhos’ matches against respective opponents Reding (6-7, 6-1) and Nyborg (5-7, 1-4) were suspended.

Old Dominion remains in Norfolk to host James Madison as part of the TowneBank Royal Rivalry on Tuesday, April 7 at 5 p.m.
