Old Dominion Women's Tennis Wins Sixth-Straight Conference Championship after 4-0 Win over Marshall

#60 Old Dominion women’s tennis claimed its sixth-straight conference championship following a 4-0 victory over Marshall on Sunday afternoon in Rome, Georgia. The win was secured after a 6-2, 6-0 victory from #103 Kira Matushkina on court one.

ROME, Ga. – #60 Old Dominion women’s tennis claimed its sixth-straight conference championship following a 4-0 victory over Marshall on Sunday afternoon in Rome, Georgia. The win was secured after a 6-2, 6-0 victory from #103 Kira Matushkina on court one.

“Well done to all involved in bringing this championship home," Head Coach Dominic Manilla said. "I’m so proud of this incredible group of women. Through thick and thin they stayed the course all season long. We played arguably our best match of the season today in the conference title match. I’m so happy for this group and excited to get ready for NCAA’s."

On court two, Uladzislava Manzhos and Marina Markina got doubles play moving following a 6-2 victory over Sarah Copley and Nour El Ouazzani. For the doubles point, Lidiia Rasskouskaia and Ulyana Romanova downed Polina Gumeniuk and Paula Berzina, 6-4, on court three, suspending Matushkina’s and Victoria Matasova’s match against Johanna Strom and Alina Mokrynska on court one, 5-3.

Markina recorded the first singles win on court six, besting Thaila Smith, 6-0, 6-1, on court six, before teammate Rasskouskaia downed El Ouazzani, 6-1, 6-2, on court five. To claim the Monarch’s fourth-straight SBC Championship, #103 Matushkina won over Strom, 6-2, 6-0, on court one.

No. 2 Matasova’s, No. 3 Romanova’s, and No. 4 Manzhos’ matches against respective opponents Gumeniuk (7-6), Mokrynska (2-6, 0-3) and Copley (6-4, 0-2) were suspended.

Old Dominion finds out its seeding in the NCAA Tournament on Monday, April 27 at 4:30 p.m. This will be the team's seventh-straight playoff appearance.
