LYNCHBURG, Va. – #56 Old Dominion men’s tennis fell short against #69 Liberty, 4-2, in Lynchburg, Virginia on Thursday evening.
Benjamin Sparks and David Ekpenyoung began doubles play for Liberty with a 6-3 victory over Adam Majchrzak and Thomas Nelson on court one. Teammates Chase Robinson and Siwanata Auytayakul took the doubles point for the Flames after defeating Felix Obermair and Yanis Moundir, 6-4, on court three. Piet Steveker’s and Zech Hamrouni’s match on court two against Rodrigo Santiago Arraez and Guy Vorwerk was suspended at 5-3.
Steveker tied the match to open singles play after downing Santiago Arraez, 6-3, 6-2 on court three, however Liberty regained its lead following a three-set win from Auytayakul over Obermair on court one (6-3, 1-6, 6-1). Monarch Aryan Saleh won the next singles match, defeating Ekpenyoung 7-5, 6-1 on court five, while the Flames came one point from claiming the match after Carl Roothman bested Hamrouni (6-2, 5-7, 6-2) on court four. In a hard-fought three set match, Sparks sealed the win for Liberty with a 6-7, 7-6, 6-2 win over Jean-Karim Olivier de Sardan on court two.
Yanis Moundir’s match against Chase Robinson was suspended at 6-4, 2-2 on court six.
Old Dominion returns home to host Delaware on Friday, April 10 at 2 p.m. in the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center.
