NORFOLK, Va. — #59 Old Dominion women’s tennis overcame Richmond to close out its regular season with a 4-3 win on Saturday afternoon.

“I’m thankful for the time Lidiia (Rasskouskaia) has been with us,” Head Coach Dominic Manilla said. “She has added great value to our program and we will miss her. I’m pleased with how we were able to get a hard earned victory for her on senior day. Hats off to Richmond, they pushed us to the edge!”

Lidiia Rasskouskaia and Ulyana Romanova claimed the first doubles victory of the day over Lara Bakhaya and Sofia Barbulescu, 6-2, on court one. Uladzislava Manzhos and Marina Markina followed suit, besting Elisabeth Novak and Lucy Webber, 6-2, on court two. With ODU claiming the doubles point, No. 3 Mya Byrd’s and Victoria Matasova’s match against Beatriz Guerra and Abby Lee was suspended at 5-4.

Romanova continued her momentum into singles play after defeating Bakhaya, 6-2, 6-4, on court two. However, Richmond got its first point following a victory on court one, where Barbulescu bested Matasova, 6-3, 6-4. Lee followed suit, tying the match after downing Manzhos, 6-1, 7-5, on court four. No. Rasskouskaia broke up Richmond’s streak by beating Novak, 6-3, 7-5, though Lainey O’Neil’s 7-5, 7-5 victory over Byrd left the fate of the match to court five. For the 4-3 win, Markina downed Webber, 6-7, 7-5, 6-1, to close out ODU’s regular season.

Old Dominion competes in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament from Wednesday, April 22 to Sunday, April 26. Seeding is yet to be announced.
