NORFOLK, Va. – Charlotte put together three big innings to deliver a 13-0 win over Old Dominion Baseball on Saturday afternoon at the Ellmer Family Baseball Complex.

Charlotte took control with four runs in the top of the third. Spencer Nolan started the inning with a triple and scored on a Spencer Nolan single. Darin Kuskie induced a flyout for the first out of the inning but Alec DeMartino singled and Dylan Koontz homered down the right field line to give the 49ers a 4-0 lead.

The 49ers scored three more runs in the fourth on a Bryce sacrifice fly, a Cody Gunderson RBI double and a run scoring single from Koontz to take a 7-0 lead.

Charlotte added five more runs in the fifth to take a 12-0 lead. Bryce delivered his second sac fly of the game, followed by another Gunderson RBI double and DeMartino added a two-run double to make it an 11-0 game. Robert Nedry added an RBI ground out to make the score 12-0.

The 49ers made the score 13-0 in the seventh on another sacrifice fly, this one by Aaron Orozco.

ODU’s best chance to score came in the sixth when TJ Aiken drilled a one-out double and Maverick Stallings walked, but Chayse Oxborrow came on to strikeout Zach Leite and Evan Holman lined out to end the threat.

Kuskie took the loss for ODU, going three innings, allowing six hits, four runs, while striking out three with one walk. Eddie Copper got the win for Charlotte, going four innings, allowing four hits and striking out two.

The two teams play the final game of the series tomorrow at the Ellmer Family Baseball Complex at 1 p.m. The game is ODU’s annual Bark in the Park game.
