NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion women’s tennis dropped its Saturday afternoon match to Ole Miss by a 5-2 score.
Ole Miss claimed the doubles point with two 6-3 wins. No. 66 Andrea Nova and Emily Welker downed No. 75 Kira Matushkina and Victoria Matasova on court one, with Riley Crowder and Alice Soulie following suit, besting Uladzislava Manzhos and Marina Markina on court two. No. 45 Lidiia Rasskouskaia’s and Ulyana Romanova’s match was suspended against Ichino Horikawa and Brooklyn Olson at 5-3 on court three.
No. 8 Welker began the singles matches strong for the Rebels, downing No. 65 Matushkina 6-1, 6-3 on court one. No. 5 Crowder put Ole Miss one point away from claiming the match with a 7-6, 6-4 victory over Rasskouskaia, allowing for No. 2 Soulie to claim the match against No. 81 Matasova (4-6, 7-6, 6-2).
Despite Ole Miss taking the win, players continued on, with Rebel Nova downing Manzhos (6-1, 5-7, 6-4) and Monarch Markina beating Horikawa (6-2, 6-7, 7-5) on courts four and six respectively. No. 3 Romanova claimed the last match of the day with a 6-4, 6-7, 7-6 win over Olson.
Old Dominion continues play next weekend, Feb. 20 on the road against Kansas State at 4 p.m. EST.
