ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Old Dominion women’s tennis wrapped up play at the Michigan Hidden Duals, splitting competition against Michigan and Xavier on Sunday afternoon.

“It was a great weekend of competition to prepare us for a challenging spring season,” Head Coach Dominic Manilla said. “We learned a lot about this group, identifying things we do well, and things we need to address. I’m pleased with where we are on the court and I’m looking forward to hosting Mississippi State next weekend.”

The Monarchs began the day with doubles competition against Michigan, where Marina Markina and Uladzislava Manzhos defeated Lily Jones and Ava Bruno, 6-2. However, Michigan would ultimately take the doubles match as their own, with teammates Piper Charney and Gabriella Lindgren downing No. 66 Victoria Matasova and Kira Matushkina (6-3), as well as Reese Miller and Emily Sartz-Lunde besting No. 20 Lidiia Rasskouskaia and Ulyana Romanova (6-3).

Old Dominion gained momentum back in the singles matches against Xavier, claiming the first three-out-of-four competitions. Matushkina and Romanova both defeated their opponents Abby Nugent (6-4, 6-2) and Emily Flowers (6-1, 6-0) respectively. Though No. 56 Matasova would fall to Maddie Rexroat (6-2, 7-6), Rasskouskaia claimed a victory over Ella DeFord (6-4, 6-2).

Mya Byrd helped seal the singles competition for the Monarchs with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Sofia Massucato, as Rasskouskaia also beat Natalie Smitek 6-2, 6-2. Markina rounded out the day with a 6-2, 7-5 win over Abigail Siminski.

Old Dominion hosts Mississippi State next weekend for the team’s home opener at 2 p.m. at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center.
