NORFOLK, Va. - Old Dominion women’s basketball has been included in the Mid-Major Top 25, slotting in at 20th, College Insider announced on Wednesday.
ODU is 5-2 in its first seven games and is coming off a 67-42 loss to Texas Tech on Tuesday night at Comerica Center in Frisco, Texas, home of the NHL’s Dallas Stars.
The Monarchs have the fifth-best offensive rebounding output in the nation (18.8) and are the seventh best in total rebounding (49.33). ODU grabs 30.5 defensive rebounds per game to rank 29th in the nation. ODU’s success in the full court press has been a key factor in ranking 31st in the nation with 12.8 steals per game.
The Silver and Blue’s interior defense is also stout, led by Riley Stack (3.3 blocks per game), Simone Cunningham (1.6 bpg), and Laila Walker (1.4 bpg). They have led the charge at denying opponents with an average of 7.9 blocks per game to rank 8th in the NCAA. ODU shot 66.7% from the free throw line in the 2024-25 season and this year have shown significant improvement, shooting 78% from the charity stripe to rank 39th in the nation. The Monarchs have made 17.17 free throws per game to sit tied for 30th nationally with Sun Belt foe Georgia State.
Old Dominion has one of the stoutest defenses in all of women’s college basketball and holds opposing teams to 29% shooting from the field, which is good for fourth in Division I. The Monarchs defend the perimeter well too, holding teams to a shooting percentage of 22.7% to rank 25th in the NCAA. ODU forces an average of 22.33 turnovers per game to sit tied for 44th in the nation.
Old Dominion takes on Oregon tomorrow morning at noon at the Comerica Center for the Monarchs’ final game of the 2025 Women’s Hoopfest Challenge.
