NORFOLK, Va. - Old Dominion men’s soccer heads to Morgantown for a midweek meeting with the #3 West Virginia Mountaineers in Sun Belt Conference action on Wednesday, Oct. 22.
The game will be streamed to ESPN+ and live stats will be available for any fans who wish to follow along with the action.
LAST TIME OUT AGAINST WVU:
The Monarchs dropped a 1-0 result in Norfolk at the ODU Soccer Complex on Sept. 21 last season. Ethan Dekel Daks scored the lone goal of the game off an assist from Sam Nyenka in the 54th minute. Old Dominion outshot the visiting team 4-1 in the first half but the Mountaineers fired eight in the second half. That effort gave them a slight 9-8 edge on the night in total shots. The Monarchs had a chance to find the leveler from a 77th minute corner kick that resulted in a shot by Michael Eberle. His effort made WVU’s Marc Bonnaire sprawl out for a save to keep his team ahead.
ABOUT ODU:
The Silver and Blue played out a 1-1 draw against UCF this past Saturday. Rourke scored his team high sixth goal in the 24th minute of action. Old Dominion sits in eighth place in the Sun Belt Conference with four matches remaining in the regular season. Eight teams make the Sun Belt Conference Championships that begin on Sunday, Nov. 9 at campus sites.
Rourke leads ODU in points with 15 on six goals and three assists. He ranks tied for sixth in the conference in shots (27), points (15), and goals per game (0.46). He is tied for fourth in the SBC in goals. Jake Lane and Alex Kryazhev are knotted at second on the team with 10 points. Kryazhev has dished out six assists which ranks 19th in the nation and third in the conference. The native of Falls Church, Va. has scored two goals, one against Lehigh and another against Georgia Southern. Lane has four goals and two assists this campaign, his four goals are good for 10th in the conference.
ODU senior goalkeeper Michael Statham has started 12 games in net and has made 38 saves while keeping three clean sheets. He has an overall record of 4-4-4 and a save percentage of 66.7%. The native of Stockport, England averages 3.17 saves per game which is good for second in the conference.
ABOUT WVU:
The Mountaineers are coming off their second loss of the season, 2-1 at Georgia State on Saturday. WVU sits at 9-2-2 and is 4-1 in conference play to sit first in the Sun Belt Conference and third in the nation.
Marcus Caldeira and Pablo Pozos lead the way for West Virginia with 25 goal contributions between the two of them. Pozos has a team high 10 goals and one assist, Caldeira has seven goals and seven assists. Pozos’ 10 goals rank eighth in the nation and Caleira’s seven assists are good for 10th in the NCAA.
Bonnaire has started all 13 games in net and has made 27 saves. He has six shutouts which is good for second in the conference and 16th in the nation.
