VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Old Dominion women’s golf had its best round of the tournament on Saturday as the Monarchs wrapped up the final day of the Evie Odom Invitational.

“The Evie Odom Invitational was once again a great success this year,” said ODU head coach Mallory Kane. “All the thanks goes to the Odom family, the Princess Anne Country Club golf staff and membership. Everyone works hard to make our home tournament special.”

As a team, the Monarchs turned in a one-under par 279 for their final lap around the course at Princess Anne. ODU finished 11th in the team standings with a three-day total of 888 (+48). Maryland and Penn State both carded 14-over par 854s to finished tied for first, and Georgia took third place with a 19-over 859. South Alabama’s Daniela Palmeros went four-under with a 206 to earn individual medalist honors, with North Florida’s Kaitlyn Schroeder and Maryland’s Surapa Janthamunee tying for second at one-under 209.

Old Dominion was led by Barbara Car, who shot a nine-over par 219 to tie for 31st. The sophomore from Vodice, Slovenia opened the Invitational with a round of 79, but bounced back with a one-over 71 on Friday and a one-under 69 on Saturday.

Ludovica Girola, Alina Shchepteva, and Puneet Bajwa all posted 13-over 223s to tie for 46th. Girola, a freshman from Como Italy, made the biggest jump in the standings. Entering the day tied for 63rd, she shot a three-under 67 thanks to three birdies on the back nine and another two on the front nine. Mariana Arronte was next for ODU, her score of 239 (+29) placing her 70th. Julia Rafter played as an individual and finished 72nd with a total of 258 (+48).

“Our team played incredible today,” continued Kane. “It was great to see us finish so strong! Congratulations to our freshman Ludovica for shooting her career best 67 and Alina for shooting her best round of the year.”

Girola led ODU in par-5 scoring with an average of 4.83 and also made the most birdies with 10. Shchepteva converted the most putts for par on the team with 39.

Old Dominion will round out its fall schedule at the Lehigh Invitational on Oct. 25-26 in Bedminster, New Jersey.
