NORFOLK, Va. - Old Dominion men’s soccer defeated Regent 10-0 on Tuesday night at the ODU Soccer Complex.
It is the second largest win in program history, Old Dominion’s largest win in program history was a 14-1 win against Richmond in 1975.
The Monarchs (5-4-3, 1-2-1 SBC) scored the opening goal 80 seconds into the contest after Micah Wayland found the bottom left of the goal to go up 1-0. Miguel Menendez scored the second goal of the game in the 20th minute, and Wayland scored his second of the game in the 24th. Kollby Godbolt netted the Monarchs’ fourth of the night two minutes later to expand ODU’s lead to four to nothing. Jett Aktan found the Monarchs’ fifth goal in the 35th minute after Lewis Rourke found him in the box. The Silver and Blue scored its sixth goal in the 42nd after Michael Eberle found Godbolt who hit it across his body and into the back of the net.
The Monarchs got the ball rolling in the second half and six minutes in they got their seventh goal from Barrett Saul with a low driven shot to the bottom left of the post. Saul would make it a brace directly from a corner kick that curled into the bottom corner of the post. Otu Bisong who was recently named Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Week after a two-goal performance against Coastal Carolina got on the board in the 74th for the Monarchs’ ninth goal without response. ODU finished the game strong thanks to Lewis Rourke who gave the Monarchs its 10th goal of the night with 40 seconds remaining.
ODU registered 38 shots, 22 shots on goal, and had 14 corner kicks. Regent (3-9) took one shot in the fifth minute which resulted in their one corner kick but didn’t have any more of them for the rest of the game.
Saul, Godbolt, and Wayland each had two goals and one assist. Aktan and Menendez both provided a goal and scored one themselves. Abdou Magib-So found Wayland for the opening goal and got an assist and Mathias Krohnstad assisted Godbolt on his first goal. Eberle dished out two assists and Lewis Rourke scored one goal and got one assist. Otu Bisong scored one goal on one shot.
Logan Bellina made his first career start for the Monarchs and secured a clean sheet in 90 minutes of action. Regent’s Trevor Grosch made 12 saves in 90 minutes of action.
