NORFOLK, Va. - Old Dominion women’s soccer begins Sun Belt Conference play this Saturday, Sept. 13 at 6 p.m. against App State at the ODU Soccer Stadium.
The game will be streamed to ESPN+ and live stats will be available for all fans who wish to follow along with the action.
LAST TIME OUT:
ODU defeated App State 3-1 in the final game of the 2024 regular season on Oct. 31. ODU captain Gry Boe Thrysoe opened the scoring in the 35th minute and Rhea Kijowski gave the Monarchs a 2-0 advantage early in the second half. App’s Kyli Switalski notched one goal back six minutes later in the 53rd minute but ODU’s Grace Hillis put the game to bed in the 82nd minute thanks to an assist by Thrysoe to give ODU a 3-1 lead. App had two more shots the rest of the way but could not find a goal to make things interesting.
ABOUT OLD DOMINION:
The Monarchs are coming off a weekend that included wins against #20 Virginia Tech (2-1) and in-state rival VCU (2-1). ODU’s Riley Mullen scored three goals across the two matchups and was named Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Week. She joins Ashlynn Kulha as Monarchs who have won a weekly conference award after the junior defender won SBC Defensive Player of the Week on Aug. 26. Old Dominion is 4-1-1 heading into Sun Belt Conference play after suffering a defeat at home to Liberty on Aug. 31. ODU opened the season with a hard-fought draw on the road against #19 Georgetown on Aug. 14.
Mullen leads the team with three goals and six points. She ranks ninth in the SBC for goals and 10th in goals per game (0.5). Yuliia Khrystiuk ranks first on the team in assists (3) as well as ranking eighth in the Sun Belt. Thrysoe has five points across ODU’s six games played and has two goals and one assist to her name. Freshman forward Ashley Economopoulos has three points on one goal and one assist. Old Dominion defender and Holly Springs, N.C. native Kulha was named to the 2025 Hermann Trophy Watchlist and was named Sun Belt Conference Preseason Defender of the Year.
ODU’s Erin Jones and Ellie Goodrich have split time in goal. Jones has made four starts, four saves, and has one shutout. Goodrich is coming off her second start at VCU and has made six saves.
ABOUT APP:
App State sits at 4-3 heading into the matchup against Old Dominion and is coming off a 3-2 win against Longwood. App is 1-3 in its last four games played, having lost 2-0 to W&M, 3-0 to Clemson, and 1-0 to ECU. The Mountaineers opened the season with a three-game win streak against Western Carolina (3-2), Miami (1-0), and Davidson (2-0).
App’s leading scorer is Ellie Garrison with four goals in seven games played for eight points. Izzi Wood ranks second on the Mountaineers with two goals and two assists for six points. Switalski has two goals in five games played for four points to rank third on the team.
Anna Claire Jacobi has started all seven of App’s games this season. She has conceded 10 goals along with making 26 saves and having two shutouts.
