NORFOLK, Va. - The Old Dominion men’s soccer team travels to Bethlehem, Pennsylvania to renew a matchup against the Mountain Hawks of Lehigh on Tuesday, September 2 at 6 p.m. at the Ulrich Sports Complex.
The game will be streamed to ESPN+ and live stats will be available for all fans who wish to follow along with the action.
LAST MEETING:
The Monarchs reigned over the Mountains Hawks 3-0 back on Wednesday, October 2, 1991. Old Dominion holds the lead in the all-time series 3-1-0. ODU dispatched LU 4-1 in 1990, won 3-2 in 1980, and fell in the introductory matchup 3-2 in overtime back in 1979 under former ODU head coach Bill Killen.
ABOUT ODU:
ODU (1-1-1) is coming off its first loss of the season to in-state foe VCU, 3-2 and is seeking a return to winning ways. The Monarchs currently rank seventh in the Sun Belt and have 10-out-of-16 freshmen and incoming transfers who have seen action this season from an ODU recruiting class that ranked 25th by Top Drawer Soccer.
A junior transfer from Bowling Green, Jake Lane has three goals in three games to lead the Monarchs and is tied for first in the Sun Belt. He also ranks tied for second in the SBC for points (6). Freshman midfielder Miguel Menendez, a native of Oviedo, Spain has started all three games to start his inaugural collegiate campaign. Alex Kryazhev and ODU captain Michael Eberle have two assists in three games played, tying each other for first in the squad and third in the Sun Belt.
Senior goalkeeper and captain Michael Statham has played every minute this season and made 12 saves across the three games. He has two clean sheets to his name, his two shutouts rank tied for second in the Sun Belt and his 12 saves are tied for first in the conference. The native of Stockport, England touts an 85.7% save percentage, which is tied for second in the Sun Belt.
ABOUT LU:
The Mountain Hawks are 2-0-1 this season and are coming off a 2-1 win over Columbia. Lehigh is on a two-game win streak after previously defeating Rider. LU opened the season with a home game against La Salle but tied 1-1. Lehigh is stewarded by head coach Dean Koski who entered his 33rd season. He took over the program in 1992, one season after the last meeting between the programs.
LU’s leading scorer is Bora Tucker, a 6-0 sophomore from Robbinsville, N.J. who has two goals in three games. Sam Davis, Luciano Larrea, and Paul Smajlaj all have contributed one goal each this season. Giacomo Zizza leads the team in assists with two.
Anton Kinnunen, a sophomore from Kemi, Finland has started all three games in goal, he has conceded three goals and made 11 saves.
