Norfolk, Va. - Old Dominion field hockey head coach Andrew Griffiths has announced the newest ODU assistant coach on his staff, Jason Klinkradt. He comes to Norfolk with over 10 years of coaching and analysis experience at the collegiate level.

“I want to extend a warm welcome to Jason, his wife, Taylor, and their young daughter, Sky, to ODU!” said Griffiths. “He is an exciting and talented addition to our coaching staff, bringing with him a wealth of experience and knowledge from the top level of the sport.”

Klinkradt spent this past season at Delaware as an assistant coach to Rolf van de Kerkhof. He helped guide the Blue Hens to a CAA Championship and a Sweet 16 appearance in the NCAA Tournament. In 2023, he spent a season with JMU under head coach Christy Morgan.

Before coming over to the United States, Klinkradt spent nine years as a field hockey head coach for YMCA Club Dublin and was an assistant coach of Ireland’s senior men’s team. He also was a support coach for Ireland’s senior women’s team and was their lead performance analyst. While in Ireland, Klinkradt was also a head coach for the U-21 side Leinster Province and earned a medal two times. Earlier in his career, he was the head coach for U-21 Free State Province in South Africa. While in the Rainbow Nation, he helped his team medal three times in the Interstate National Championship.

“He has worked as an assistant coach and performance analyst for a number of years at the international level with the Irish National Team,” said Griffiths. “He also has experience working in the NCAA, and at youth levels for many years. He has top level coaching and clinical education, and his perspective and analytical approach will help us to grow as a program and as a staff.”

Klinkradt earned a Master of Science degree in Sport Performance analysis from the Institute of Technology, Carlow in 2020. Recently, he participated in the 2025 Senior Nexus Championship as the head coach for team Paris. The NXC is an annual event for collegiate and post-collegiate female athletes featuring 144 female athletes in the United States and serves as a selection opportunity for the Senior U.S. Women's National Team and Junior USWNT Selection Camps.

“He has already had an impact in his short time working here,” said Griffiths “I believe his skills and personality balances our coaching staff dynamics extremely well. Let’s get to work!”
