NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion University men’s tennis added Piet Steveker and Zech Hamrouni to the 2025-26 squad, head coach Dominik Mueller announced on Friday.
Hamrouni is a freshman from Bristol, England and has been ranked as high as No. 178 in the ITF World Junior rankings. He won a pair of singles titles and three doubles championships on the ITF tour. He is also a member of the Great Britain Junior Davis Cup team.
“I chose ODU to further develop my academics at an excellent facility while still maintaining a very high level of tennis and athletic discipline,” Hamrouni said. “I hope to thrive with this program and improve as a person day in and day out on and off the court with the help of everyone around me.”
“Zech checks all the boxes we are looking for in a freshman,” Mueller said. “He loves tennis, wants to become a pro and is successful in the classroom. He has shown his potential in Juniors and is highly recommended by his coaches, but there is so much more room for improvement that we are trying to maximize while he is with us. We are excited he chose us and think his signing completes another talented and promising freshmen class for us.”
A transfer from Louisville with two years of eligibility, Steveker went 9-9 this season for the Cardinals playing at the No. 5 and No. 6 singles spots.
He ranked as high as No. 317 in the ITF World Junior rankings, winning a singles and doubles title. A native of Wuppertal, Germany, he was a German Junior Doubles Champion in the U18 bracket.
“I am super excited to join ODU and all of the challenges ahead and to hopefully keep winning with the Monarchs,” Steveker said.
“I recruited Piet already two years ago but he decided to go to Louisville, which was ranked #19 in the country at that time,” Mueller said. “It’s a great example of how you always see each other twice in life. Piet will bring tremendous experience to our team having played many matches in the ACC, which was probably the strongest conference in college tennis this past year from top to bottom. He was a part of a ranked team at Louisville, so he knows what it takes to play at this level and I think he can take his game to the next level here which will help us to keep building on our success.”
