NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion women’s lacrosse fell to Temple on Saturday afternoon, dropping its final home contest of the regular season 13-9 on Senior Day.

Temple (3-11) had five Owls find the back of the net in the first 10 minutes of the first quarter. Sabrina Martin opened the game with a goal 40 seconds into the game, with teammate Sarah Gowman and Erin King following suit minutes after. Amelia Writing and Cassidy Brown netted one in each before Emily Liberio scored with under three minutes left of play. Old Dominion’s (8-8) Sylvia Mayo broke up the Owl’s scoring streak with a goal on a free-position shot, making the score 6-1 in Temple’s favor by the end of the first.

King netted in another goal to kick off the second quarter at the 11-minute mark, and teammate Kaitlyn Stankavage scored just two minutes later. Sydney Taylor closed out the first half with a free-position goal, putting the Monarchs down 8-2 going into halftime.

Temple’s Stankavage found the back of the net two minutes into the third quarter. ODU’s Ella Bowen responded three minutes later, netting in her first of the day and ODU’s third. The Owls and the Monarchs exchanged goals for the remainder of the quarter, with Sarah Murrell and Mayo scoring in between goals from Lily Caravela and Amelia Wright to cut the score to 11-5 as the third came to a close.

Despite Wright scoring once more, Old Dominion entered the fourth quarter looking to cut the deficit. Murrell scored twice in between a goal from Gowman, with Annalynn Pompetti finding the back of the net two minutes before Murrell recorded her fourth goal of the day. Despite the effort, ODU was unable to make up the point differential, falling to Temple 13-9.

Murrell led the team in scoring with four goals and secured four draw controls. Mayo followed behind with two goals, with Taylor, Pompetti, and Bowen each accounting for one. Gracyn Roth had a team-high three caused turnovers, while goalies Brynn Bowen and Hannah Shaddock recorded 11 total saves.

Old Dominion travels to Vanderbilt next weekend for its final game of the regular season on Saturday, April 26 at noon.
