Women's Golf Finishes Tied for Eighth at Sun Belt Championship, Gonzalez Earns All-Tournament Team Honors

POINT CLEAR, Ala. – Lucia Gonzalez shot another one-under par 71 on Wednesday to finish in fifth place following the final round of stroke play at the 2025 Sun Belt Championship, held at Lakewood Golf Club.

The Monterrey, Mexico native finished with an even total of 216 for the three days. Her play earned her a spot on the Sun Belt Championship All-Tournament Team for the second straight year.

For her final lap around the club’s Dogwood course, she started off with a bogey on the par-4 10th hole, but quickly recovered with a birdie on the very next hole. She added another birdie on the par-3 17th hole and was one-under with a 35 at the turn. Gonzalez then eagled the par-5 first hole and recorded a final birdie on the fifth hole.

Puneet Bajwa also carded a final round of 71 and finished tied for 10th at three-over par 219. She hit an even 36 on the back nine, then made three birdie putts on the front nine. Also in the ODU lineup on Wednesday were Carley Rudolf, Mariana Arronte, and Alina Shchepteva.

After shooting a 79 on Tuesday, Rudolf followed with a round of 76 on the final 18 holes. Her two-day total of 155 (+11) had her tied for 34th in the standings. Arronte turned in a third round of 80 to finish tied for 43rd at 231 (+15). Shchepteva hit an 82 in Monday’s opening round and shaved off three strokes with a 79 on Wednesday. Her 36-hole total of 161 (+17) had her tied for 49th. Barbara Car did not compete on the final day and placed 69th with a two-round total of 172 (+28).

As a team, the Monarchs ended up tied for eighth alongside Arkansas State with a 38-over par 902. Georgia Southern won stroke play with a six-over 870, Coastal Carolina was next with a 15-over 879, Southern Miss ended up in third with a 16-over 880, and ULM carded a 21-over 885 to finish fourth. The top four teams advance to Thursday’s semifinals, which will feature a match play format.

“We gave it our all today and came up a little short of making the match play finals. It is never easy to have your season come to an end. I’m thankful to my players for their unwavering dedication and commitment to our team,” said ODU Head Coach Mallory Kane.

USM’s Momoka Ando was the individual champion at 9-under par 207. GS’s Louise Reau and ULM’s Daniela Campillo tied for second place with a pair of 3-under 213s.

“Our future looks bright and we will be back here next year with a renewed sense of purpose,” added Kane.
