NORFOLK, Va. - Old Dominion men’s basketball heads on the road for its final two games of the regular season. The Monarchs face off against Marshall on Tuesday in Huntington, W.Va. at 7 p.m. before heading to Coastal Carolina to take on the Chanticleers on Friday in Conway, S.C. at 7:30 p.m.

Both games will have live stats and will be streamed on ESPN+. Jack Fitzpatrick and Dennis Wolff will be on the call for ESPN Radio 94.1.

LAST TIME OUT

ODU fell to Marshall 81-77 on Thursday fueled by Obinna Anochili-Killen’s 24 points. Anochili-Killen added four rebounds, four blocks, and three assists, while Mikal Dawson chipped in 15 points. The Monarchs went into halftime down 41-26 and were down 66-50 with seven minutes remaining in the second half. ODU clawed back its deficit to three points with 40 seconds remaining after a pair of layups by Jaden Johnson and Sean Durugordon on consecutive possessions. Dawson and Jalen Speer both hit a pair of free throws with less than 20 seconds remaining to put the game out of reach as it finished 81-77.

The Monarchs defeated Coastal Carolina 74-52 after ODU stormed out to a 20-8 lead with 8:24 left in the first half after Robert Davis Jr. made a pullup jumper. Old Dominion went into the half up 39-18. ODU’s largest lead was 28 points, the game had one lead change and was tied once with the Monarchs never surrendering the lead. Davis Jr. scored 23 points and dished five assists. Durugordon secured a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds and Freshman Caden Diggs scored 10 points.

Old Dominion men’s basketball went 0-2 last week dropping games against Marshall and Georgia State. ODU has an overall record of 11-18 and is 7-9 in the Sun Belt. The Monarchs are 10th in the Sun Belt, 319 in NET Ranking, 307 in Kenpom, and have a -8.0 BPI.

Durugordon is the team’s leading scorer averaging 15.5 ppg. The native of Harlem, New York, is ODU’s leading rebounder averaging 8.7 rpg. His average of 4.0 offensive rebounds per game is sixth best in the nation and ranks first in the Sun Belt. He is the team’s third leading free throw shooter, hitting 78.2% at the stripe. Durugordon ranks sixth in the Sun Belt in scoring (15.5 ppg), third in rebounding (8.7 rpg), fifth in field goal percentage (46.3%), and sixth in free throw percentage (78.2). Durugordon has 12 double doubles this season which ranks 14th in the NCAA, second in the Sun Belt, and his eight 20-point games is fifth in the Sun Belt.

Davis Jr. is the team’s second leading scorer averaging 15.4 points per game. Davis leads the team in three-point attempts and makes (95-289). The sophomore transfer from UMass averages 3.39 made threes per game which has him fifth in the nation, while his 95 makes from deep are third in the NCAA. In the Sun Belt, Davis ranks seventh in scoring (15.4 ppg), second in free throw percentage (84.7%), first in total three-pointers made (95), and is first in minutes per game (35.82). In ODU’s last game the transfer from UMass made his 95th three pointer of the season, passing Anthony Carver for ODU’s single season three point record. 

Caelum Swanton-Rodger, a junior transfer from Maryland, swats away 1.5 blocks per game, his 39 blocks this season ranks 91st in the nation and fourth in the Sun Belt. The junior from Calgary, Alberta, Canada has played 28 of 27 games in his first year at Old Dominion and averages 5.4 ppg on 56.1% shooting and grabs 4.5 rebounds per game.

Freshman Jaden Johnson has started 28 games this season at point guard. He leads the Monarchs in assists per game (3.8) which ranks eighth in the Sun Belt. The native of Walker Mill, Maryland is sixth in the Sun Belt in minutes played (33.77). He has a +1.61 assist to turnover ratio and averages nine points per game.

Caden Diggs has played in all 29 games as a freshman. He shoots 79.2% from the charity stripe and averages 2.8 ppg on 38.5% shooting from the field. The native of Waldorf, Maryland scored a career high 11-point performance against Georgia Southern.

ODU averages 68.9 ppg, shoots 40.2% from the floor and 28.4% from behind the arc, making 6.1 per game. They hold a +2.5-rebounding margin and grab 38.6 per game while dishing out 10.8 assists per game. The Monarchs have swatted away 86 shots this season while swiping 158 steals. In the Sun Belt, ODU ranks first in offensive rebounds per game (14.38), second in offensive rebound percentage (36.6%), and they have the second-best rebounding offense (38.55). The Monarchs are the seventh ranked offensive rebounding team in the nation, averaging 14.38 offensive rebounds per game.

ABOUT MARSHALL

Marshall has an overall record of 17-12 with a 10-6 Sun Belt Conference record. The Thundering Herd are ranked 188 in the NET rankings, 186 in Kenpom, and have a -2.0 BPI.

The Herd averages 75.4 points a game with a .443 shooting percentage from inside the arch and .314 percentage from outside. From the defensive end, Marshall averages 5.2 blocks a game with 6.7 steals. Obinna Anochili-Killen leads the team in scoring with an average of 13.9 ppg and ranks first in the Sun Belt and second in the nation in blocks with 84 and averages three per game. Mikal Dawson is the Herd’s second leading scorer averaging 12.8 ppg.

ABOUT COASTAL CAROLINA

The Chanticleers have an overall record of 9-20 and are 2-14 in the Sun Belt. Coastal is ranked 328 in NET rankings, 326 in Kenpom, and has a -10.7 BPI.

CCU averages 66.7 points a game, shoots 43.2% from the field, and 34.8% from deep while making 7.5 per game. The Chanticleers have a +2.3-rebounding margin and grab 36.2 per game. Coastal shoots 69.7% from the charity stripe and dishes 11.5 assists per game. Jordan Battle leads the team in scoring averaging 12.7 ppg followed by RaSheed Jones with 11.8 ppg.
