NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion’s men’s tennis fell to Cornell in their final match of the ITA Kickoff Weekend with a final score of 4-1.
Brother duo Connor and Codie Van Schalkwyk grabbed the first win of the match against duo Eric Verdes and Rushil Khosla (6-3), though Cornell would respond when Rodrigo Fernandes and Radu Papoe defeat Cosme Rolland De Ravel and Adam Majchrzak (6-3). In a hard-fought match, Cornell’s Adit Sinha and Jack McCarthy overcame Yanis Moundir and Yanis Nelson (7-5) to earn their team its first point.
Papoe began the singles with a win over Connor Van Schalkwyk (6-1, 6-1), though Rolland De Ravel would grab ODU’s first point with a strong victory over Sinha (6-1, 6-2). Cornell would finish out the day with straight wins, beginning with Fernandes besting Moundir (6-3, 6-4) and ending with Felipe Pinzon defeating Aryan Saleh (6-3, 6-2). Codie Van Schalkwyk’s match against McCarthy was suspended (4-6, 2-4) alongside Jean-Karim Olivier de Sardan’s match versus Mao (6-3, 2-6).
Old Dominion will continue to hit the road as they head to Blacksburg to take on Virginia Tech on February 7.
