NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion’s men’s tennis team opened their spring 2025 season with back-to-back wins against Georgetown and Christopher Newport.

Against Georgetown, ODU finished the matchup with a 6-1 victory, while sweeping CNU later that night with a 7-0 score.

The Monarchs swept the Hoyas in the doubles matches, beginning with Yanis Moundir and Thomas Nelson, who defeated Burke Pablo and Jacob Mann with a 6-3 score. Cosme Rolland De Ravel and Adam Majchrzak followed by besting Akira Morgenstern and Adhvyte Sharma (6-1), while brother duo Connor and Codie Van Schalkwyk rounded out the doubles by defeating Jake Fellows and Arthur O’Sullivan (7-5).

ODU went 5-1 in the singles matches. Aryan Saleh dominated Sharma in straight sets (6-0, 6-4) as well as Moundir, who bested Georgetown’s Sahil Morey (6-1, 6-2). Jean-Karim Olivier De Sardan took down O’Sullivan (6-4, 6-1), while Codie Van Schalkwyk overcame Morgenstern (7-5, 6-4). Monarch Connor Van Schalkwyk fought hard against Hoya Fellows, though he would eventually fall in the tiebreaker set (3-6, 6-3, 5-10).

To end the day, the Monarchs won two doubles matches against the Captains, with Rolland De Ravel and Saleh defeating Bhuvanesh Kumaresan and Vincent Truong (6-1) while Olivier De Sardan and Majchrzak bested Edvard Porsmyr Hansen and Aston Legum (6-1). The third doubles match was suspended.

The Van Schalkwyk brothers both dominated the singles matches, with Connor overcoming Truong (6-1, 6-2) and Codie defeating Porsmyr Hansen (6-1, 6-1). Saleh and Nelson beat their respective opponents Kumaresan and Christiansen with 6-2, 6-1, and 6-0, 6-1 scores. To round out the singles, Majchrzak swept Legum (6-2, 6-2) as Moundir defeated Ryan Monroe (6-3, 6-2).

The Monarchs will continue their spring season campaign against UVA on Sunday in Richmond at 3 p.m.
