NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion men’s basketball team looks to build on a three-game win streak as they open a four-game homestand by hosting App State on Thursday, Jan. 16 at 7 p.m. before playing Georgia Southern on Saturday, Jan. 18 at 3:30 p.m.
Both games will have live stats and will be streamed on ESPN+. Andy Mashaw and Dennis Wolff will be on the call for ESPN Radio 94.1.

ODU fell to App State 89-64 on Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2024 as the Mountaineers got out to a 19-2 start and never looked back. App State’s Tre’Von Spillers led all scorers with 18 points on the night. ODU’s Chaunce Jenkins and Tyrone Williams combined for 30 points.
ODU dropped a 92-75 loss against Georgia Southern on Friday, March 1, 2024. The Eagles got out to an eight-point lead by the 12:44 mark and did not trail for the rest of the game. Tyrone Moore finished with 32 points in 31 minutes. ODU’s Jenkins scored 24 points and made two threes.

ODU has won three straight games, defeating South Alabama 71-63, Louisiana 71-60, and Southern Miss 74-71. The Monarchs have an 8-9 overall record and are 4-1 in the Sun Belt. Sean Durugordon was named Sun Belt Men’s Basketball player of the week on Tuesday, after two 20-plus point performances against South Alabama and Louisiana.
Robert Davis Jr. leads the team in scoring with 15 ppg, three-point attempts, and makes (59-for-162). He averages 3.69 threes per game which ranks fifth in the nation on 36% shooting from deep. His 32 points against ULM is tied for the highest scoring performance in the Sun Belt this season. The transfer from UMass leads the Sun Belt in three-pointers made (59), is sixth in scoring (15 ppg), and fifth in free throw percentage (84%). Durugordon is the team’s second leading scorer, averaging 14.5 ppg. The native of Harlem, New York, is ODU’s leading rebounder averaging 7.7 rpg. His average of 3.76 offensive rebounds per game is 11th best in the nation and ranks first in the Sun Belt. He is the team’s second leading free throw shooter, hitting 82% at the stripe. Durugordon ranks eighth in the Sun Belt in scoring (14.5 ppg), fourth in rebounding (7.7 rpg), and fifth in field goal percentage (48%). Stephaun Walker is the team’s second leading rebounder, grabbing an average of 7.4 per game. His 2.71 offensive rebounds per game average ranks 95th in the NCAA. The transfer from Robert Morris ranks fifth in the Sun Belt in rebounds per game (7.35) and offensive rebounds (2.71). Caelum Swanton-Rodger, the transfer from Maryland, protects the paint by swatting away 1.8 blocks per game, his 30 blocks this season rank 35th in the nation and second in the Sun Belt. Freshman Jaden Johnson has started all 17 games this season at point guard and leads the Monarchs in assists per game (4.6), ranking third in the Sun Belt. The native of Walker Mill, Maryland is second in the Sun Belt in minutes played (34.56).
ODU scores an average of 69.6 points per game, shoots 41% from the floor and 30% from behind the arc. They hold a +2.6-rebounding margin and grab 39.5 per game while dishing out 11.9 assists per game. The Monarchs have swatted away 56 shots this season while swiping 86 steals. In the Sun Belt, ODU ranks first in offensive rebounds per game (14) and they have the second-best rebounding offense (39.53). The Monarchs are the 19th ranked offensive rebounding team in the nation, averaging 14 offensive rebounds per game. Chartway Arena has been home to the highest attendance in the Sun Belt with an average crowd size of 4,750.

The Mountaineers sit at a 9-7 overall record and are 3-2 in the Sun Belt. Coached by sixth year head coach Dustin Kerns, App State is on a three-game win streak as they prepare to head to Norfolk. The Mountaineers were picked to finish sixth in the 2024 Sun Belt Preseason Coaches’ Poll and are 150th in NET Ranking, 133rd in Kenpom, and have a .3 BPI.
Myles Tate is App State’s leading scorer averaging 15.5 ppg followed by CJ Huntley averaging 14.8 ppg. Both Huntley and Tate earned preseason honors as Huntley was named to the Sun Belt’s second team and Tate was named to the third team. Jalil Beaubrun is the Mountaineers third leading scorer (8.7 ppg) and second leading rebounder (5.0).
App State averages 70.8 ppg and concedes 64.2 for a +6.6-scoring margin. The Mountaineers shoot 45.8% from the field and 36.9% from deep. Appalachian State averages 37.7 rpg and gives up 35.4 rpg for a +2.3-rebounding margin, has dished out 215 assists (13.4 per game), and made 102 steals and 63 blocks. In the Sun Belt, App State has the second-best scoring defense (64.19), field goal percentage (45.8%), and field goal percentage defense (38.5%). The Mountaineers rank first in three-point percentage (36.9%), three-point field goal percentage defense (28.3%), defensive rebounds per game (27.81), and rank third in assist/turnover ratio (1.13).

Georgia Southern has a 8-9 overall record and are 1-4 in the Sun Belt. The Eagles are coached by Charlie Henry in his second season. Georgia Southern was picked to finish seventh in the Preseason Coaches’ Poll. The Eagles are 292nd in NET Ranking, 284th in Kenpom, and have a -7.4 BPI.
The Eagles’ leading scorer is Adante’ Holiman (15.1 ppg) followed by Bradley Douglas (13.9 ppg) and rounded out by Nakavieon White (12.6 ppg). Tyson Brown is GS’s leading rebounder (5.4 rpg) and White is leading in assists (2.6 apg). Douglas has a team high 31 makes from deep this season followed by Eren Banks’ 25.
The Eagles average 73.6 ppg and concede 79.2 for a -5.6-scoring margin. GS shoots 42% from the field and 32% from deep. The Eagles grab 36.7 rpg while allowing opponents to grab 39.3 for a -2.6-rebounding margin. They’ve made 221 assists (13 per game) while adding on 139 steals (8.2 per game) and 57 blocks (3.4 per game). Georgia Southern ranks third in the Sun Belt in steals, fourth in threes made (149), and seventh in three-point defense (31.8%).
